scholarship program

Our team meets with artists one-on-one to hear their stories, learn about what they do, and determine what they need to get where they want to go. Assistance through this program may include funding, coaching on marketing and business planning, and/or finding resources and businesses that can help the creative succeed. We keep track of the artists’ progress and provide them with a scholarship based on their demonstrated progress, need, and likelihood of success.

Heather Craig
Heather is a traditional classic rock musician hailing from the island of Hawaii. She performs all over the region from Tampa to Jacksonville as a soloist with her guitar.  STArt Now was able to help Heather with photography by setting her up with new images and headshots that she could use to promote herself and upcoming gigs that better represent who she is as an artist.

Becky Lyons
A local artist with a fine eye for detail, painting portraits and recreating prints. Although she's only been painting professionally for three years, Lyons natural talent shines in her works of realism. The young artist's knows when to add a touch of gold or color. Lyons hopes to expand her artistic talents to one day teach to others and create a more inclusive community through art! We love big dreams and we love that we can help artists like Lyons make them come true!!

Abellas School of Dance
Luis Abella and his dance studio are the most well known and professional dance and ballet studios here in town. When we heard they were in need of a new portable dance floor to use for their annual Spring and Winter performances we had to jump in and help out.
Abellas dance caters to all ages and types of dance.

Kelly King
Kelly King is simply amazing- her funky pop style is a reflection of her genuine personality and not to mention her incredible talent. Kelly’s love of artistry began in high school when an art teacher submitted a graphite drawing into an art show, and she now ignites the same passion for her students, giving them freedom to create and a sense of accomplishment. She teaches middle school art at Sebastian Middle School and has created a social media platform, SMArt, that showcases her students’ progress and includes a You Tube Channel.  She is also known for her throwback funky cool T shirts and vinyl’s. Her paintings reflect this same unique twist, best described as pop that meets realism that is surreal. The most enjoyable part of the painting process for Kelly is when her love of color theory culminates into a piece of art that fits together like pieces of a puzzle. She credits the freedom to enhance her unique style to having a strong support system of family and friends including her husband Andrew who is her biggest fan. Whether its her resin jewelry, wall murals, t-shirts, or paintings her style is ever present.  It is this all-encompassing genuine nature and love of art that made STArt Now want to give her a scholarship for art supplies as well as donating sketch books to her students to continue their artistic growth. Kelly is an example of what being a good human and following your passion is all about!

Luke Otto
Luke Otto is a fairly new name in the St Augustine music scene, but he is making everyone a believer in his skill and passion for music.  His style is unlike any other floating around our streets right now. You can hear his influences of Blues and Reggae vocally and instrumentally. He first picked up the guitar at age 12 and decided to be a professional 3 years ago.
STArt Now was more than happy to support him when we ran across him at his day job at The Amp St Augustine which goes to show his whole life is centered around his passion for music, and that is something we can get behind! He’s always picking up gigs around town

Sam Shin
Sam Shin is mostly known around town as the Cello man who gives amazing hugs. Sam is classically trained and has taken that skill and applied it to almost any genre of music. He collaborates with many different musical acts around town including Sailor Jane and the Swell Acoustics and more recently with Alex Peramas, Bret Blackshear, and Colton McKenna amongst many many others- too many to name in fact.  When the idea of STArt Now first started Sam was one of the first to volunteer his time and ideas while opening the doors to what it is really like for a gigging musician. He has always championed the mental health of artisans and is currently working with STArt Now to develop a way to keep our towns artists and musicians minds happy.

Corey Peterson
Corey Peterson, a native of St Augustine, first played the saxophone at 12 and 2 years later he had his first paying gig and knew that’s what he was meant to do. Now he has the reputation of being one of the most gregarious stage personas in town, he never sits still and is always jiving to a tune. Corey has been volunteering for STArt Now over the years and is one of the favorites because he is always willing to be a part of any crazy idea.  His answer is always yes and we love it!!! Who knows what crazy idea he will agree to next! When his vintage saxophone was damaged during a performance STArt Now jumped in to repair it so he could get back to work serenading his listeners.
You can catch him on stage dancing and playing with his band Chilula.

Chris Ingraham
Chris Ingraham, otherwise known as Chris Elvis, is a creative that is multifaceted in many different areas of art.  He’s a sculptor, painter, and sketch artist but his true passion is for writing.  He has the amazing ability to add imagination to words and make a story come to life. He first started writing in Portland 6 years ago when he ran out of funds to continue his clay sculpture pieces. He was inspired by other authors such as Roald Dahl and Hermann Hesse. The most engaging part of the writing process for Chris is the brainstorming and he has found, and believes, that you can do anything and create the impossible with the written word- all it takes is the ability to dream. He continues to be inspired by his previous experiences with art including his sculpting, glass making, mixed media art pieces, ceramics, painting, murals, print, and poetry. This love of all art forms is why STArt Now awarded him with a scholarship to provide him with an editor for his newest book that will be released within the year.

Angie Edginton

Angie may be a familiar name around town because of her time as a musician, but if you don’t know her for her art then you should. Her style is completely unique and mind blowing, and it is this quality that drew STArt Now to her. Angie first started sketching when she was blank and came back to it later in life.  Her portraits are a blend of styles that create an undeniable realistic piece of art. When she was ready to branch out into incorporating color and pastels STArt Now was there to provide her with the tools she needed to keep creating her beautiful art.  Her work is displayed primarily at The Lovely Pearl, but you can also check her work out at various art shops around town.

Her willingness to share her gift with those less fortunate is what made STArt Now want to support her. She and her band can be found wowing the crowd with their bluesy talent in downtown St Augustine and Jacksonville.

Amy Hendrickson
It would be hard to describe the STA singer songwriter music scene without talking about Amy. She has come up from the ranks, mentored others, and is one of the kindest people and her smile is like Sunshine! She has been a local staple in the music scene and an ambassador of the arts leading the charge with projects like the Local Honey documentary and album. This is why she was inducted into the Saint Augustine Music Hall of Fame this year as one of the youngest recipients. Amy has also spent time traveling the world with her guitar, voice and great mind for a song. Recently, she partnered up with STArt Now for her new album Grit and Gold. Through this collaboration STArt Now sponsored the release of the album both digitally and physically. With these fantastic new songs for the listeners and never ending well of talent the sky is not the limit for this Saint Augustine music queen.

Tucker Joenz
Many a musician has been immortalized in time with a photo, but what is often not realized is that the true artist in such instances is unseen. It is in fact, the one behind the lens. Tucker Joenz is such an artist. He is a creator with a list of talents that include: Photographer, Film Maker, Developer, Motion Graphics, Designer and Illustrator. That first one is what many of us know him for. While he works in many areas of photography, Tucker has a true love for capturing musicians. His work has put him backstage, in the pit and on tour with bands like Pepper. Narrow itself has benefitted many times from his work as several of his photos have graced our pages. Tucker also has a heart for community and is often working with musicians and different artistic projects in the local area of St. Augustine since moving here 7 years ago. With this community spirit, STArt Now and Tucker have found an organic partnership. His work has been on display at pop up events and he himself has been the photographer of choice many times. With his support and great talent it is no surprise Tucker Joenz has become the main and most referred photographer for STArt Now, and we were all happy to help out when he needed a new laptop to continue furthering his career and skills..
